people are always sleeping on the train. just the other day i was sitting on the train and the guy next to me dosed off and started soring...i could not help but laugh-i mean hello you are on public transport....another habit people have on the tubes is picking their nose, it's so gross!!! i'm so amazed at the fact that people pick their noses in public...i mean you can be staring someone down while they have their index finger merged up their nose and they still carry on digging for diamonds like there is no tomorrow.

so i was on the tube and there was this lady sitting near me and the first thing i noticed about her was her nails....so i just had to ask her if they were real and guess what they WERE!!! i mean hello what possesses someone to grow their nails that long??? okay anyone who knows me knows that i'm always on a mission to find the best hot chocolate in any town...and so far i have found the worse hot chocolate ever....i had to go to Sidcup the other day for an interview and i was early so thought i would grab a cuppa...this was the first time in a long time that i actually wished i drank tea or coffee. the secret to making a good hot chocolate is making sure you add a extra spoon of hot chocolate and NO water!!!!

The other day i had a meeting at canary Wharf - which is basically the banking sector of london. the person i was seeing was not in the office when i presented myself at the front desk...so they gave me this beeper which basically would notify me when my contact came down to collect me...i mean wow...how sophisticated...must remember to get this when i start up my own company!!!! ah this borough is a real gem in london...i went the other day with a friend and i would give anything to live in this area...it's just such a beautiful place. lots of arty shops to shop in...beautiful english houses...if you are ever in london then you just have to included notting hill in your exploration. one of the most famous streets in notting hill is portobello road...so had to get a pic. as you can see i have played around with it in photoshop and like the feel of it.

went to the Pretoria zoo yesterday....yes yes doing the zoo thing i know but like i said few posts earlier it's the safest outdoor thing to do in this region.

various people have also informed me since my stay here that the Pretoria zoo was THE BEST zoo- how wrong were they. it has to be the worst zoo i have ever been to...i am even convinced that they mistreat the animals there and I'm looking into the matter. the only reason why the zoo might be considered great by some is because you get to take a cable car as pictured above once you have walked from one ended to the other.

oh and by the way if you hate joburg go spend the day in Pretoria....you will have an new appreciation for JOBURG...joburg is heaven compared to Pretoria

so over the long weekend, we went to the cradle of humankind, which is just outside joburg. it's an amazing place! it's so beautiful! there are quite a few things to do in the cradle of humankind. you can go to the sterkfontein caves, wonder caves and maropeng (just to mention a few). we decided to visit maropeng which is a museum that looks at the birth of earth and wo/man. the museum takes it view from Darwin and that Africa was the birth place of homosapiens- which as we might remember from school is not what they taught us! at school we were given the impression that everything started in europe. so it's nice to see that mother africa was the place were it all started. the best part of the museum is that you get to go on an underground water ride where you can explore the different elements (earth, wind, fire, water...and if you are a five element person-LOVE). i have no photos from the ride cos it is very very dark down there and you need a tripod in order to get any form of something happening in the photo. it's a really cool place. i recommend it...even if you are a christian. just go...

I think this is just so crazy- the fact that you find this sign at every off and on ramp in the northern suburbs of joburg is just so sad! i was raised in Joburg and never once did i ever see such a sign while growing up....i wish SA would do something to stop the crime....cos this is just not the way people should live! as sad as it is, this sign really sums up the fear and situation in Joburg. how many people have seen this sign and still been victims????? why aren't the cops looking out for our safety...DON'T WE PAY TAXES FOR THAT?????????

this is a photo of Moodana- a sculpture that makes up an international art exhibition that has been touring different countries in the hope of raising money for child welfare. this is an old photo that i took last year December while in Grahamstown. My Rhodes' friend will know this statue. there is an old myth at Rhodes that says that if you leave Rhodes a virgin this statue will drop his sword. a few years back a group of friends and myself decided we wanted to bring back the spirit of the great Dada movement. we decided that we would do random acts that would leave a mark on society. one of our plans was to decorate this very statue with condoms the night before the first day of exams, so that when people arrived at the hall where this statue is situated they would see our artwork and social comment on the drop your sword myth. we never ever got around to defacing this poor statue- it would have really gone down well with the VC (ha ha) .anyway i really like the compostion of this photo! go go dada

I just got a new Egyptian drum. I have always wanted one of these. I just love drumming, even though I'm not the best and i prefer to play bass rather then rhythm (yes yes the boho in me is coming out). Drum circles are a great way to meet new and interesting people. an Egyptian drum is very different to any other African drum-it's made of metal and plastic so it produces a very interesting "ting' sound.

I was driving to Randburg the other day, when I came across this wooden chair/swing effort that some craftsman makes and advertises. I have seen several chair-swing things throughout the Sandton and surrounding areas. The craftsman seems to have placed them at different gas stations as a means of advertising to a wider audience.

But this particular one in Randburg, is the only one that has barbed wire right around. None of the other ones I have seen have this wire around them. I am very keen to phone the number advertised above the chair swing and find out why this particular one has barbed wire around it! When I saw this chair from the highway I just had to stop and take a photo.

Nowhere else would you ever see such a thing. You would think that it would be great advertising if people could sit on it and try it out for comfort, but I guess this one is just for viewing.

It is official I'm in Johannesburg, about to set off on a new chapter in my life. A chapter I've been holding off for a very long time. I have only been here a few days and already I want to run in the opposite direction. Joburg is just so different to anywhere in SA. People here are very concerned with wealth, white takkies and jean pant. anyway…on my return, I went to Sandton and took this photo of the great big statue they have erected in Nelson Mandela's honour at Sandton square (AKA Nelson Mandela square). I did not have my tripod with me so I could not get the exposure right (too much ISO). Besides that though I like the view point of this photo...

Took this photo yesterday, I was bored, so I went around our garden and tried to find things to photograph. This block of red wood caught my eye. So I just had to take a photo of it! I like the red against the grey-it really breaks up the grey and draws your attention straight to the block. The focus is not that grand and that's because I don't have a macro lens, just yet!

this is a photo of the coastal line near where i'm staying in Port Elizabeth. as you can see i've played with it a bit....i love the feel of this photo! the tones and contrast give it an old photo feel as a well as a dark morbid view of the sea!
